Walking back to happiness - Waiheke Walking Festival

Preparation for the annual Waiheke Walking Festival is well under way and the call has gone out for walking ambassadors to help.

Organiser Jenness Reeve says in only its second year the event is set to become the biggest and most comprehensive walking festival in New Zealand.
She says the aim is to showcase Waiheke as a quality walking destination with excellent public walkways and reserves right on Auckland's doorstep. She is asking for volunteers who would like to act as walking ambassadors so visitors think of their visit to Waiheke as a «walking back to happiness» experience.

The ambassadors will fulfil a range of duties that include staffing an information table, meeting and greeting at the ferry terminal, and directing walkers either to the muster point of the walk or to the bus they need to catch to reach a muster point. They will also assist walk guides during a walk.
Volunteers will be kitted out in matching festival t-shirts and caps and a badge that will say in large letters: "Ask me about The Walking Festival".

Mrs Reeve, says: «No one will be thrown in at the deep end there will be a workshop and a couple of get-togethers to give all our ambassadors the information they need. It is going to be a lot of fun. You might be a keen walker who would like to accompany the walks or you might really like chatting to people and making them feel welcome so would prefer a more meet and greet role.

The festival runs from Saturday, October 29 to Sunday, November 6.
The workshop will take place mid October and the get-together in the week before the start of the festival.
