These dudes are made for walking - Cumnock and New Cumnock Walking Festival

IF YOU'RE looking to enjoy the summer weather then get your walking shoes on and get involved in this month's Cumnock and New Cumnock's Walking Festival.

East Ayrshire's Countryside Rangers will be hand for three days later this month.

On Friday, July 29 Cumnock's Woodroad Park Bat Walk will take in the delights of dusk before entering the dark to enjoy the world of bats and night time creatures. Meet in the top car park at 8.30pm.

The following day the Afton Walk will look at wildlife of the Afton Water and then enjoy the views from the Glen Afton Road and Burns Cairn. Meet at the Afton Brigend, New Cumnock at 10am. This walk will last approximately two-and-a-half hours.  

If that's not enough then later that Saturday the SWT Knockshinnoch Lagoons Wildlife Reserve at New Cumnock will host a further walk. Knockshinnoch Lagoon is a haven for breeding and wintering birds so head along to enjoy the wealth of wildlife in one of Ayrshire's best nature reserves. Meet at the reserve's car park at 2pm. This walk will last approximately two hours.

On Sunday, July 31 the Dumfries House Estate will host a walk offering the ideal opportunity to enjoy the Estate's rich history and pristine countryside. This walk will last from 10am till noon. Light refreshments will be available at the Coach House café from 10am to 5pm. 

Finally a Hannahston Community Woodland Walk will take in the woodland running between Drongan and the A70 Cumnock to Ayr road later on Sunday. Walk this fantastic reinstated coal site consisting of ponds, mature and newly planted woodland and enjoy the sights and sounds of local nature. This walk will last from 2 to 4pm.
