Brush down your boots and sort out your socks, it's time for The National Forest's Walking Festival again!

The National Trust's Calke Abbey is taking part with guided walks around the estate's precious Lime Yards as well as a chance to meet the livestock - a hugely important part of Calke Park's landscape in more ways than one.

The Lime Yards walk will take place on Thursday 26 May. Your guide will help you to explore this fascinating part of the Calke Estate, so be sure to bring a torch to help with your discoveries! This leisurely 2 - 3 mile walk will last 1 hour 30 minutes starting at 2pm from the Middle Lodge on the main drive. Park entry charges are £1.70 adults and 60p children. Dogs on leads are welcome and admission charges to the park apply.

The Meet the Livestock walk is planned for Tuesday 31 May. Join the warden for an on-foot park safari to meet some of the woolly-faced friends and majestic deer that have been part of the Calke Estate's landscape for centuries. This leisurely 3 - 4 mile walk will last 2 hours starting at 2pm from the Main Car Park at Calke Abbey. Park entry charges are £1.70 adults and 60p children. No dogs allowed and admission charges to the park apply.

Philip Bittner, Assistant Manager of Calke Abbey said: «The Calke Estate is a major focal point for the National Forest, so we always take part in the Walking Festival's programme. What better way to enjoy the Spring season than by getting out in the fresh air and exploring the natural wonders of the park?=

Don't forget to stoke up your engines by enjoying a hearty lunch at Calke Abbey's restaurant - or maybe a tasty cream tea afterwards!

The National Forest Walking Festival starts on 21 May until 1 June 2011.
