First ever National Trust walking festival to take place in 2011

While chatting with Mike Collins of the National Trust this morning, he revealed to TravelMail that preliminary discussions are underway to hold the first ever National Trust Walking Festival in autumn 2011.

'It'll probably take place during October half-term but it's still in the early planning stages, ' Mike told us.
'Lots of people know the house and garden side of the National Trust but we want to introduce them to the coast and country too. Our downloadable walks have already proved really popular.
'There'll be something for everyone, from a short walk with a tea-room at the end of it to a nine-mile hike. It's a celebration of both the National Trust and walking.'

Earlier this year, the National Trust revealed that the six-mile Bath Skyline walk was its most popular in terms of the number of downloads from the organisation's website.
And, an extra little festive present for you...TravelMail and the National Trust are working together to compile a list of ten brilliant walks for New Year's Day. It'll be on the site before Christmas so keep your eyes peeled.
