Monmouthshire walking festival is launched

THIs week sees the start of the Monmouthshire Walking Festival, running between October 21-30.
The ten-day festival comprises of more than 30 walks and to ensure numbers remain small, each walk is ticketed.

Chairperson Clare Scutts said: "We have set up a brand new website allowing people to buy online. Although some of the walks have sold out, there are still about half a dozen places on most walks which leaves people the chance to check the weather before making a commitment."

The walks have been set up in conjunction with other walking organizations, local historical societies, conservation groups, astronomers and more. In and around Chepstow there is the classic Piercefield Walk, Tintern to Hewelsfield and a guided tour of Mounton Brook.

Towards Abergavenny there is a walk looking at the life of Lady Llanover, The Lost Village of Y Graig and the famous Hatterall Hill.
There are also walks from Trellech and Usk with fantastic views and riverbank scenes and one by local author Alastair Ross which goes as far afield as Pontypool Folly Tower and The Shell Grotto - both of which will be open on the day.

Since it is half term there are three events where children go free: A night walk with Astronomers and a visit to the planetarium, Geocaching, a hi-tec style treasure hunt and a walk in the RPSB wetlands for the under 5's.
