Kate Humble steps out to support Monmouthshire walking festival

MONMOUTHSHIRE Walking Festival will launch next week, with support from Spring Watch presenter and Wye Valley resident Kate Humble.

Walkers will be able to choose from 30 different routes during the 10 day festival, which runs from October 21 to 31, and aims to showcase the best of walking in Monmouthshire.
Organisers have put on routes varying in length and difficulty, and walks have been devised in conjunction with local historical societies, conservation groups, and astronomers.

Routes on offer include a five mile guided tour of Mounton Brook and its mills near Chepstow on October 25, and a seven mile walk on October 23 looking at the life of Lady Llanover by walking through Llanover Church and Llanover Park to the edge of the Llanover Estate.
There is also an eight mile walk from Abergavenny castle on October 23 to the abandoned village of Y Graig.

There are several events suitable for children, including a night walk with astronomers at the top of the Blorenge and visit to the Astronomical Society's planetarium at Llanfoist Village Hall on October 22.

The festival is being supported by wildlife presenter Kate Humble. She said: «There are numerous guided walks for every level of walker, so lace up your walking boots and come and experience all the wonderful variety and diversity Monmouthshire has to offer. Then you can have the pleasure of introducing your friends to one of the most beautiful places in the world.»

Walks will be ticketed to ensure the numbers for each group remain small.
