HUNDREDS of people will lace up their walking boots and head out into the countryside for Hay-on-Wye’s first ever walking festival.
Walkers will be in and around the town from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday for the 30 guided walks, from athletic outings across the Brecon Beacons to gentle strolls.
It will start at 7.30pm tomorrow with a special event at the Swan Hotel featuring broadcaster Trevor Fishlock and polar explorer Felicity Aston.
Ms Aston has led a number of all female expeditions to the Antarctic, Greenland and the Canadian Arctic.
The festival has been organised by Hay Tourism Group to celebrate the diversity of walking opportunities in the area, with one or two literary references along the way. Tickets are £6 each.
Proceeds will be split between the chosen charities Water Aid and Longtown Mountain Rescue.
