Record support for a Newport tradition - Newport Muster

MORE than 500 people turned out to show their support for one of Newport Pagnell’s oldest traditions on Saturday.

Hundreds showed their support at the annual walkabout which follows four sign-posted routes around the ancient town and its neighbouring Ouse Valley.

The event could have been ruined by some less than perfect conditions but people, both young and old, still turned out in their droves.

The walking festival attracts people from all across the town and is centred on Bury Field, the town’s 1,000-year-old Common and themed on its role as one of Cromwell’s most important garrisons in the Civil War.

It is endorsed by a number of local organisations in Milton Keynes and is supported by the MK Community Foundation

Along the way the walkers picked up two very special guests in the form of Mayor of Milton Keynes, Alan Richards, and Mayor of Newport Pagnell, Wendy Egan, who both showed their sporting sides by walking one course while also wearing their mayoral chains of office.

Many people entered teams for the routes and among the largest on the day was Sharpe as Mustard who had around 30 people taking part.
