Morpeth Walking Festival is back

THE annual Morpeth Walking Festival returns next week.

Retiring Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) Vice Chairman Colin Harvey has played a leading role in the festival as Chairman of the trust’s Environment Interest Group.

He helped to produce a series of 20 maps for walkers to use all year and was heavily involved in footpath, seating and signage improvements as part of the Castles, Woods and Water initiative that GMDT took on from the former borough council.

As Mr Harvey prepares to retire from the trust he hopes people will take advantage of the festival and the improvements. He said: “Go out and enjoy the beautiful countryside and wonderful walks on our own doorsteps.”

The festival runs from Monday to Sunday, offering 14 walks to choose from. They are graded for difficulty, from easy to advanced, and all are led by experienced walkers.

Full details are in a booklet from GMDT at The Lodge in Carlisle Park, Morpeth Town Hall, Morpeth Library and The Chantry Tourist Information Centre.

To book a place on a walk call GMDT on 01670 503866.
