Details of the eighth Morpeth Walking Festival have now been released.
Fourteen walks will take place as part of the event next month, catering for people of all ages and fitness levels.
The festival, which is being organised by the Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT), offers various routes in and around the town, taking in local beauty spots and historical locations.
And there are new walks in the programme following work to restore paths along previously inaccessible routes, such as a walk from Whorral Bank on the outskirts of Morpeth through ancient woodland to Bothal.
All of the walks have been carefully selected and assessed, will be led by experienced walkers and are graded according to their level of difficulty.
Festival organiser Gemma Gadomski said: “Past walking festivals have encouraged so many people of all ages to get out and about to enjoy the wonderful countryside and river paths on our doorsteps. What is particularly rewarding is that many people have continued to enjoy the healthy benefits of walking in the fresh air and enjoying what’s all around them, instead of just driving past in a car or bus.”
The week-long festival runs from Monday, September 19 to Sunday, September 25.
A leaflet with a booking form is available from local outlets, including the GMDT offices in Carlisle Park, Morpeth Library, Morpeth Town Hall and the Tourist Information Centre in Morpeth Chantry.
Places on the walks are limited so booking is essential, and participants are reminded to wear clothing and footwear appropriate to the conditions.
