ACHILL SUMMER WALKS FESTIVAL

Walk B: Achill Beg
As part of Heritage week we will travel to Achill Beg, an island which has a rich archaeological and cultural history. The visit to the island will be fully guided, enjoy listening to stories of the Island’s history and folklore.
Grade: Easy
Duration: 5 Hrs
Departure Point: Cloughmore Pier@10am.

Please note transport will be by traditional currach which will carry 6 passengers at any one time, with large numbers there may be a slight delay in transferring people to the Island.

Sunday 28th August 2011:
Walk A: Polranny Hill and The Great Western Greenway
Enjoy a guided walk on Polranny Hill, taking in the magnificent views: to the north Achill Sound, Innisbiggle, the Nephin Mountain Range and Blacksod Bay; the Corry lakes in the area at the foot of Curraun Hill; Achill Island to the West and upon reaching the summit the breath-taking views of Clew Bay.
The walk will continue to meet up with the Great Western Greenway, a walking and cycle track which follows the route of the Old Railway line from Westport to Achill. The walk will finish at Dánlann Yawl Art Gallery and Coffee shop, Owenduff where walkers will enjoy light refreshments followed by a presentation of Certificates and commerative pins to all those who participated.
Grade: Moderate to Easy
Duration: 5 Hrs
Departure Point: Belfarsed Church, Curraun, @10 am

Monday 29th August 2011:
Walk A: Slievemore
No visit to Achill would be complete without a visit to our great mountain. Standing majestically at 672m Slievemore presents a challenge to all walkers. Breath-taking views are to be had as you make your way to the summit, once there the views of are spectacular.
Grade: Moderate
Duration: 4Hrs
Departure Point: Slievemore Graveyard @10 am
