DENTDALE WALKING FESTIVAL

1.  Around Dent (3m 1.5hrs Easy)    
Open Studio with John Cooke (artist). An introductory walk to Dent Village and it's immediate surroundings to the south and east, concluding at John Cooke's studio
.
2.  Barth & Back (2m 1hr Easy)

   Open Studio with Lucy Sandys-Clarke (blacksmith). An introductory walk to Dent Village and it's immediate surroundings to the north and west, concluding at Lucy's forge.

3.  Gorgeous Gawthrop (3m 1.5hrs Easy)   

Introduction to meditation and yoga at the Meditation Centre. An easy stroll to the tiny and picturesque hamlet of Gawthrop & then back to the Meditation Centre to meet Eliza & Laura.

4.  Flintergill & West (6m 3hrs Moderate) 

   Ascending Flintergill Outrake and then following the 'Occupation Road' westward to Combe Scar and Gawthrop. Spectacular panoramic views of Dentdale and the Howgills.

6.  Postman's Path, Cowgill (4m 2hrs Easy)   

Open Studio with Pip Hall (letter carving in stone). A walk from west to east along the Dentdale valley to Cowgill, calling in to see Pip at her studio. Enjoy the free shuttle bus back or take the unguided Dales Way back into Dent.

7.  Frostrow Fell
(9m 5hrs Moderate)    A climb over Dentdale's north west flank to open moorland and Frostrow Fell, returning via a riverside section of the Dales Way. Great views of the Howgills.


8.  Great Knoutberry Hill
(7m 4hrs Mod/Chal.)    Open Studio with Pauline Lawton (artist). Starting at Cowgill, climbing past Dent Station to the summit of Great Knoutberry. Returning via Arten Gill to meet Pauline at her studio.


9.  The Ascent of Whernside
(10.5m 6hrs Challenging)    The classic Wainwright-inspired ascent of Whernside.


10.    Rise Hill Ridge (8m 5hrs Challenging) 

   The full traverse of Rise Hill Ridge. A high-level walk offering unspoilt views over Dentdale, the Howgills and beyond.

11.  Barbon Inn to Dent (8m 5hrs Challenging)  

  Starting from the Barbon Inn, this mainly high-level walk wakes you past Calf Top and Combe Scar then dropping in to Dent via Flintergill for refreshments and a look round. Free shuttle bus back to Barbon.

12.  Flower & Eco Walk (3m 3hrs Easy) 

   Open Studio with Sophie at the Shop on the Green (wool craft & felting). A guided walk by Jackie Foott along flood lane and on to Biggerside Farm House and grounds, dating back to 1540 for a walk & talk about the wild flowers and eco systems Jackie has implemented. The walk will return into the village to the Shop on the Green to meet Sophie of Sophie's Wild Woollens.

13.  Meadowsweet Craft Trail    

Starting from the Meditation Centre, this trail goes past the artists' studios, cafes, pubs, Heritage Centre, along the River Dee and back up through the cobbles. This easy stroll will give you a real taste of our wonderful dale. A bus service will be available to Cowgill to visit other studios and the Sportsman's Inn pub. This walk is not guided and a free map & bus times will be given out at the Meditation Centre.
