Special events for walking festival - Winchcombe Cotwolds Walking Festival

Organizers are gearing up for the Winchcombe Walking Festival which will include some special events for 2012.

The festival, which will be held from Friday to Sunday, May 18 to 20, offers 17 guided walks for all abilities and will have a whole host of knowledgeable guides on hand.

This year the festival will be celebrating Katharine Parr’s 500th anniversary with an insight into Tudor life in and around Sudeley Castle, where she is buried.

Highlights also will include a walk along the Windrush Way from Winchcombe to Bourton passing the remains of ‘lost’ medieval villages, a walk of a section of the Cotswold Way with the National Trail Officers and the opportunity to learn about Winchcombe’s military history during the two World Wars.

Secretary Robert Talbot said: “This year bookings are beyond our expectations. With 10 weeks to go we already have some walks full or nearly full. The committee are now exploring increasing the number of walks to meet the demand.”

Fal River Autumn Walking Festival guides unveiled

The guidebook for the first ever Fal River Autumn Walking Festival, sponsored by the Nare Hotel, has been unveiled.

Featuring 40 guided and self-guided walks, organisers have produced over 30,000 copies of the guides are available free to walkers of all ages and abilities.
Launching the new Fal River Autumn Walking Festival guides are (Back row l-r) Natalie Zuczkawski, Toby Budd, Beverley Hayward and Claire Wood. (Front row l-r) Tommy Tonkins, Louise Green, Tim Smithies, Tim Light and Cadbury

Launched on the back of the successful Fal River Festival, the Fal River Autumn Walking Festival runs from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, November 6.
The first festival of its kind, the event includes walks around Truro and Falmouth, as well as from The Roseland to Helford.

Festival director, Toby Budd, said: “We’re really pleased that the guides are ready. They are easy to use and carry, which means they are ideal for people to pick up and put in their pocket or bag and get out walking. The other great thing is that people can follow the self-guided walks all year round and enjoy them outside, as well as during, the festival. We’re now distributing them to visitor information centres, hotels, tourist attractions, shops, cafes and restaurants to ensure that as many people as possible have access to them.”

As well as the guidebook, details for the all of the walks are available from festival website.

First ever Fal River Autumn Walking Festival

Picture perfect views and unique flora and fauna will be on offer at the first ever Fal River Autumn Walking Festival.

Organised by the team behind the Fal River Festival the two week event aims to highlighting the best of what the Fal River has to offer, and give an autumn boost to businesses.
The walks will roam past historical points of interest, meander along coast paths and pass through areas of outstanding natural beauty and world heritage sites.

Festival director, Toby Budd, said: «The festival has two real aims. Firstly, to encourage more visitors to come to Cornwall in autumn and help provide a boost for local accommodation providers, as well as other businesses such as restaurants and pubs. Secondly, we want to showcase the amazing walks and autumnal colour that are in the river Fal area.»

Running from October 21 to November 6, the festival will have guided and self-guided walks through some of the most stunning scenery Cornwall has to offer.
A range of walks of different lengths to suit all abilities will be on offer for everyone, and their dogs, with “Blue Badge Guides” helping give walkers an insight into areas from the Roseland to the Helford Passage.

Apply now to get involved with Stroud festivals season

APPLICATIONS are now being sought for this year’s Five Valleys Festivals in September.

These allow organisations and businesses to get involved with activities taking place within the festivals, which have become major events in the area’s annual calendar.
Among the applications being welcomed are from pubs, cafes, restaurants and outlets to be included in the Stroud Food and Drink Festival, which runs from September 2 – 18.

Incorporated within this will be the Stroud Walking Festival, for which walking groups are invited to submit applications to include a variety of routes in the official festival programme.

This year also includes the Festival of Nature – set to be a highlight of the fortnight held in Stratford Park over the second weekend – and the Eco Open Homes Festival held the same weekend.
«The last few years has seen people from all over the UK and as far away as America and Australia come to festival events,» said festivals director Bern Wakefield-Heath.
«All these events will attract a lot of people into Stroud and the surrounding area over the period of the festivals, and will be the perfect way for companies and organisations to attract awareness for what they do.»

For information about applying contact Mr Wakefield-Heath on 07905 697 865 or email stroudvalleysfestivals@live.co.uk
